After complaining about Arsenal’s failure to strengthen the club’s squad adequately during the summer, Ashley Cole has gone and made matters worse by suffering a stress fracture in his foot that will sideline the left back for a month. Already suffering from relatively indifferent form following the loss of Patrick Vieira to Juventus and Thierry Henry to injury, the Gunners must now make do without arguably their next best player.
Of course, this now means Cole misses the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland. But alas, England’s most popular Swede has re-assuring words for the public:
“We have a lot of options including (Jamie) Carragher, Phil Neville, Stephen Warnock and Kieran Richardson who is playing there for Manchester United at the moment.”
So a centre back and the lesser Neville brother are England’s saviours on a left side that’s already lacking a true winger. Outstanding.
