So Martin Jol wants to have a swipe at the Arse does he? Just another team? Lets think about this for a second.
Now I hate Arsenal as much as the next guy (as long as the next guy isn’t an Arsenal or Spurs fan). But Martin Jol’s comments are a rather stupid way to bait a manager and team that have achieved more than he ever will. Sure Vieira and Henry contributed greatly to that success. But is he seriously overlooking the tremendous contributions of players like Bergkamp, Pires, Overmars, Cole, Campbell, Keown, Seaman etc. over the last few years? The contribution of Wenger in bringing this group of players together and making them successful? Jol’s biggest contribution so far has been getting to second place after nine games. Admittedly Spurs usually cannot go nine games without a meltdown, but its hardly the point at which you can credibly attack the second most succesful Premier League manager ever.
So Martin, if you want a the single most important reason why Spurs will not be competing with Arsenal, why they’re not just “another team” to you. I’d say the easiest reason is you. You’re not Arsene Wenger. You probably won’t ever be. You’ve not got the talent for bringing out the best in your players (I mean for God’s sake — what the hell have you done to Defoe this year?), you’ve not got the skill to bring in quality new players (‘roided Dutch has-beens don’t count), and you cannot get your players to perform consistently throughout a full season. Sorry mate, you’re fat, you’re ugly, and you’re out of your mind.
