Boggs: What do you get for the club that has everything?
March 8, 2006
Still genuinely concerned for the safety and health of Didier Drogba following some apparently career-threatening challenges on Tuesday, Boggs wants to know what is wrong with the Premiership’s favourite club.
With Chelsea successfully outclassed all over the pitch in the Champions League by a club that has spent less than a tenth on transfers over the past couple seasons, something is amiss in the world of the ‘Special One’. The problem surely can not be the Great Jose Mourinho’s management, therefore, gaping holes must exist in the London’s club squad that can only be plugged by throwing immense amounts of ill-gotten cash at them.
So, grieving Blues supporters, let us know who has become expendible and who needs to be brought in to finally win the big trophy you’ve always dreamed of for…well…two seasons? Duff for Kaka? Offer Ballack 900,000 a week? Drogba for a sack of potatoes?
Put on your FM cap and go nuts.

Got something to say?

Drogba to leave, that’s an easy one. Our problems still lie up front where neither Crespo nor the Diving Didier inspire much confidence. Michael Ballack will take some of the pressure off Lampard in goals-from-midfield, but we still need a class striker who fits the way we play.
I would say break the bank for Shevchenko, he’s in his prime for another couple of seasons and we know we have the money (The money wasted on Drogba and Crespo would have easily covered it).
Other than that, we don’t have many holes, sometimes the way we play relies on brilliance from individual players rather than cohesive team play across all 11 but Jose is smart enough to change that by next season.
For someone who supposedly has the most attention to detail than anyone in the world, with ‘dossiers’ on everything from corners to who likes what drink for breakfast, Mourinho is shite in the transfer market.
Can’t think of one player HE signed that has become a truly irreplacble class act for the first team. With so many expensive transfers, we could easily have afforded Wayne Rooney or Michael Owen but instead got Drogba and Crespo.
Speaking of transfers, what exactly has Frank Arnesen done for us? I can bloody offer clubs 20M+ for players and get them, what good is he if he can’t spot us some real talent FFS>
Jose out
Jose in
We’ll only win the Premiership back to back (note Arse)and the FA Cup, this year. Unforgivable. Get a life you jealous f***ers.
Easy now Ralph, enjoy the fact that the best people can do these days against your club is to laugh when you are knocked out of the Champions League. It’s flattery.
Point taken redrum. The article is correct in stating Joses’ management cannot be the problem. To us he is the best in the world and can do no wrong. However, a little humility would help his persona. He chooses this approach to help keep the spotlight away from the team which is more than adequate to dominate the Premiership but still short of the brilliance of Barca. Next season we will move up another level, with two or three world class additions, if the very best can be bought. A new target man - Eto maybe, with maybe Ballack in midfield for starters. Champions League will be Chelseas within two seasons - no question.
Regarding improvements I’ll keep my two pennies worth and spend it at secure venue inhabited with like minded Chelsea supporters like CFCnet or Chelsea Blog and not air my what nots in a forum with so many Chelsea haters skanking around thank you.
I will say this though. Champions League success is dependant on many things luck being one and freedom from injury and suspension being another. We beat Barca last year and they beat us this year who knows what will happen next year. We don’t need that many adjustments to succeed hell if Liverpool can win it anyone can! And if pretty football was a guarantee of CL success how come Arsenal have been such Euro failures?
I believe Chelsea will win the CL while Jose is in charge and we will definitely win it at some point because the coach the owner the team the club and the fans all have the belief.
You can hate us but you can’t stop us.
Go on Bluey, don’t be shy you’re amongst (sort of) friends!
OK Anonymous here’s a little of what I think… There’s a leak at the back William should be playing in Central defence the JT/William combo is the best defence in world football we have to get the left back thing sorted out and return to our miserly ways. With Johnson not cutting the mustard mentally or otherwise we need two new full backs with a fit Wayne Bridge returning also. I’d also think about replacing Huth or Carvalho with PSV’s Alex or Anderlecht’s Kompany.
Ballack’s a good buy and I’d keep Maniche as a squad player so we can challenge on all fronts.
I can’t think of many 20 goal + strikers who play the lone up front role. Drogba does the mountain of physical work required in that role very well but the lacks finesse and finishing prowess of Crespo. Ideally you’d like a striker who has both and you’d have to genetically construct one because I don’t believe one exists.
I’d like us to be able to play a number of systems competently. 4-4-2 may have been the go against Barca in the 2nd leg but as we’re not practiced at it we would have been spanked 4-1. We also should think about playing a midfield diamond more but again we require practice at that too (pre season games are good for this) we have two good players in Eidur and Joey who can play at the top of that.
I’d love Crespo to stay but don’t think he will (no disrespect to him for that) so we’d need two strikers I’d take one from overseas like Adriano or Martins (for his speed) and one from the PL and I’d let Carlton Cole go and look at some one like Bent from Charlton who’s been scoring freely and makes similar diagonal runs to Crespo and is good in the air too. Or even Roberts from Wigan who has the strength of Drogba is good with both feet and is a neat finisher both these good players can become very good under JM.
I have more thoughts but that’s something to chew on.
Agree with Bluey.
We’d have to change our style of play to get a consistent 20 goal striker playing the lone role. Obviously Barca do it with Eto’o but they don’t use him in the same way we use Drogba, he’s also a class above.
Before Moureen arrived Chelsea were 2nd in PL and the reached the semis of the CL. So let’s think about it - under Mourinho they splash unprecedented further millions on three or four world stars and he gets them to 1st in the PL and, hmmm, the semis of the CL. Progression, I suppose, but not that much. Ballack in now, I see, so where does Essien play? And Makalele? Such problems, my heart bleeds. You need a damn good excuse for not winning every competition you ever enter. And your fans and players celebrate every victory like there’s an even playing field How happy could you be if you ever won the CL knowing that you threw money at it till it stuck and you can’t develop more than a single player through your ranks? No matter what you achieve, your club sucks cock.
Well I don’t know adrian our club just threw some money at the youth academy so we’ll ensure that we’ll be hated for our successes for many years to come.
Yeah we celebrate because we’re carefree does that annoy you too?
There’s never been an even playing field in England of anywhere in Europe my friend we’re just a different breed.
If Chelsea was bought by Sir Walter Wanksalot III of Sussex or Richard Branson intead of a foreigner would you be half as upset?
Or is it because Cinderella’s not going to the ball.
We know we’re hated but we’re getting used to it and you now what? It doesn’t feel that bad so relax don’t worry about it adrian you’ll give yourself a headache.
