Perhaps in a Mourinho-esque move to take attention away from the under-fire England squad, England’s World Cup referee Graham Poll booked Croatia’s Josip Simunic three times – finally sending him off after the 3rd – in the final group match against Australia.
FIFA released an official statement confirming the blunder and Poll is now considered the World’s Most Comical Ref, overtaking this guy.
To make matters worse, the reason that Poll did not realize he had booked Simunic already was because he actually wrote down the name of Australia’s Craig Moore instead the first time round – comforting news to both sets of players and fans that the referee in charge of their group-deciding match was apparently incapable of distinguishing the two teams apart.
