An exasperated OverLandAndSea has a puffin in his boot over Defoe’s England career after watching Tottenham redeem themselves against a rather awful Sheffield United.
It’s got to the point now where Jermain Defoe is starting to boil my piss. This is a bloke who is continuously picked for England and yet he can’t hold down a place at fucking Spurs! Even when he failed to make the World Cup squad fans and pundits were coming out of the woodwork about what a travesty it was. There was such uproar over Walcott and his lack of Premiership or international experience but I look at Defoe’s record of 1 goal in 17 internationals and I fail to see why McClaren loves him, it’s a fucking disgrace. The former Charlton and West Ham Judas has never even set the Premiership on fire, only managing a run of form or two. If he can’t dislodge Mido, Keane or Berbatov how can he claim to be of international standard?
Last season we saw Darren Bent burst onto the scene in the Premiership and finish as the top scoring Englishman. It would be no wonder if Bent gets pissed off and punches people on a nightly basis given that he is far more the complete player than Defoe who, other than a strong shot and a bit of pace, is a terrible footballer. He’s constantly offside and offers little intelligent movement or team play that it’s hardly surprisingly Martin Jol has dropped him. Such a poor footballing brain has no place on the international stage.
Let’s hope other promising English strikers like Dean Ashton, Andy Johnson and Darren Bent, all of whom I’m certain will score more for West Ham, Everton and Charlton than Defoe will for Tottenham, and talented youngsters like Theo Walcott get a chance under McClaren. If the new England boss is serious about making positive changes to the side, he could start with getting rid of the dead wood – starting with Jermaine Defoe.
