West Ham Coup: How Angry Are You?
by Administrator on August 31st, 2006So as everyone and their grandmother is aware, the biggest news of the day is Carlos Tevez announcing on his personal website that he and Javier Mascherano are about to sign on a season long loan for West Ham, after the London club agreed a deal with sports company Media Sports Investments who, for some reason, own the duo.
Still no official confirmation yet from any either club involved, but both West Ham supporters and their rivals are in hysteria over the deal. Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea were all linked strongly with the Argentinians with United and Arsenal in particular in need of Mascherano’s services, while Tottenham and Newcastle generally pride themselves on signing so called ‘big names’ away from the Champions League clubs. So for West Ham to nip in ahead of all of them represents arguably the biggest coup in football history.
The fact that some fans still believe it’s all a hoax only tells at the level of frustration and jealousy this would cause should it come off. West Ham fans are in a tizzy such that their main message board, kumb.com, is currently struggling to manage the volume of traffic.
There is no doubt that every Premiership club, Chelsea included, would have hailed their transfer window a success should Tevez and Mascherano walked in the door and no one else.
So given that West Ham, of all clubs, look like snapping them up we’re wondering:
How angry are you?

Richard - August 31st, 2006 at 7:33 am
I heard Tevez was raised in Romford and has followed the Hammers all his life
Scott - August 31st, 2006 at 7:34 am
As a West Ham fan, I’m just wondering where they will fit into the side?
peter wilkin - August 31st, 2006 at 7:35 am
as an arsenal fan i am furious that once again wenger has failed to sign twoplayers i have never heard of. what is he playing at? there are hundreds of players out there i have never heard of and in order to satisfy my absured media driven craving for novelty he could have bought at least one of them. besides, what has he ever doen for arsenal with his poor judgement and vision. surely its time to appoint tony adams as manager.
Crackity Jones - August 31st, 2006 at 7:35 am
He could be seen in the South Bank every home game
Alan Pardew - August 31st, 2006 at 7:36 am
Tevez joins as striker number 5. He still has to prove to me that he is worthy of a starting position.

If rumours are correct, R.A. is a financial backer behind MSI. This is just a deal to get the two players used to the Prem. They will be whipped out of the team and into Chelsea’s whos who of football before we know it. To be honest as a West Ham fan I would rather we didn’t deal with MSI any further. Dodgy doesn’t do that lot justice.

un-'appy 'ammer - August 31st, 2006 at 7:42 am
Maybe not as great as we first thought! Looks like a loan deal until they settle, then watch Chelski snap ‘em up! Hope we don’t let our skipper go just to make room?

I don’t mind them signing for a one year loan deal with the Hammers. Almost every player from overseas needs a lot of time to adapt to the PL, no matter how much talent they’ve got.

You are being used by abrahomovic as a feeder club.
it will not be a shock if you have iranian owners soon who are in bed with abrahovic.

Nice use of sarcasm Peter Wilkin but Mascherano is not only a great midfield player who would grace any side but an integral part of the Argentinian national side too. You’ve heard of Argentina haven’t you? Anyway, I think the root of all this frustration is not that we haven’t signed Mascherano or Tevez per se but that we were in fact told directly by the manger that a. “he knows what needs to be done to improve the side”, b. there’s “plenty of money for the club to strengthen if we want to” & c. he was “looking to add 2/3 players of great calibre for the start of the season”. Why bother telling us any of these things & then just watch as nearly every other prem side (who we already had trouble playing against last season) continue to improve their squads? It doesn’t make any sense when our team is clearly in need of strengthening in 1 or 2 key areas.

Whats the point in west ham fans getting all excited, its only a 1 year loan at the end of it they will move to chelsea.
gazzap - August 31st, 2006 at 7:58 am
I dont blame the west ham fans for their short sightedness. they support a team that they desparately want to win matches. they dont want to look beyond the headlines to see what is really happening here.
West Ham is being used by Joorabchian + Berezovski + Abramovich who own MSI. They will probably end up at chelsea by May, sooner if they are a massive hit. will they be allowed to play against Chelsea, I doubt it very much.
when these players are withdrawn West Ham are going to find themselves in the shit having relied on them all season. WH fans should not be happy about these kind of boom bust tactics with their club being used as a pawn by wealthy foreign businessmen.
as for Arsenal fans being upset that we did not sing these players, do you think a company owned by abramovich would sell its players to Arsenal? get real.
James bond - August 31st, 2006 at 8:02 am
I donno why ppl are upset on missing out on 2 argie players. From what I’ve read, they seem to be trouble makers at Corinthians, and whether they will adapt to life in England remains to be seen. They might turn out to be very good, but the reason they are playing for West Ham, if they are to be signed, are mainly because they wanna get get out of Brasil, rather than really wanting to ply their trade in England. In a couple of years, at the first opportunity, they will be off somewhere else in Italy. Take my words for it. Arsene is looking for unknown talents, develop and integrate them into the Arsenal culture and style of football. It’s easier to mould them when they are young.

Still if Tevez scores hat-tricks every game and we win the league, it’s all good.

No-one seems to have told the West Ham webiste yet, you’d think they might have mentioned on their official site?
kdv - August 31st, 2006 at 8:04 am
u really think so? i thought so too at first, but if they did do it like this there’d be a HUGE uproar in the footballing world, just as chelsea are trying to clean up their act as far as their public image goes. After the tapping up enquiries and the millions spent on the club, surely they wont have the audacity to do such a thing to a fellow premiership club.
Isupport west ham, and hope this is not the case, and i doubt that the big men at chelsea would even try and do such a thing. Take it as face value for the time being, after that if they go to chelsea then every single football fan in the country will enraged at chelseas underhanded dealings and their audacity to pretty much ruin smaller clubs.

Peter Wilkins’ sarcasm seems lost on you. The point is that the hype that we believe and the subsequent let-down that we feel are absurd. The title of this post is How Angry Are You? Get a grip! You can experience emotion about football matches, about players leaving even; but about players that we’d been linked with for all of 48 hours not arriving? pur-lease! We as fans should stop hanging on the iffy word of newsfeeds and stop craving novelty for the sake of it.
By the way, I’m an informed football fan but hadn’t really heard too much about either player before the WC. You’re telling me you knew of either player beyond what the tabs had told you? Saw footage of them playing at Corinthians did you?
Commentators on most of these message boards seem to be spoiled, over-excitable and/or semi-literate. My guess is most are about twelve. The sooner the schools go back, the better.

Fergie sits on his fuckin behind while shit like this happens. What are Utd playing at? to compound it all he gives rossi to newcastle. Our strike force is crippled and we have no midfield. As for the dumb ass Gill, absolute waste of time he has no power or influence. Cant pull off big transfers, works in the FA but scholes and rooney still get banned. Its not the glazers fault whatsoever cuz trust me the money is their but the two losers mentioned above have no clue on how to spend it. (absolutely disgusted at the west ham transfer coup)

All these conspiracy theories are hilarious, shame fans of supposedly bigger clubs can’t handle the thought of a bit of competition with a touch more grace. West Ham played fantastic last season, they have one of the best young English managers around, after accommodated Scaloni last season, why on earth wouldn’t we want to push on. The futures bright, the futures Claret and Blue.

I don’t get why some Hammers are moaning. This is like getting Gerrard & Rooney on load for a season. Being used or not, I’d rather have them in the side then not have them. West Ham are a proud club, but that’s got nothing to do with good business. So what if they pi$$ off to Chelski in May. If it gets us in the UEFA cup or better still the Champions League, who cares? The club will be better off for it in the long run.
I’d like to hold on to NRC but if the Arse or ManYoo come in for $17m, it will be hard to do.
bvb - August 31st, 2006 at 9:11 am
well I believe if Man U, Arsenal, or Chelsea wanted those players they wouldn’t be joining West Ham now. I mean I’m not one of those people who read something in the tabloids about Wenger desperately wanting to sign Mascherano for example and thinking it’s a fact. Surely world class players have a choice where to go more or less and they wouldn’t choose West Ham. No disrespect to WH and their fans - it’s just that big players move to big clubs where they get to play in the Champions League and bla bla bla…

bvb, MSI own the rights to these 2 players. THE PLAYERS HAVE NO SAY IN WHERE THEY GO. MSI (aka abramovich) decided that WH was the best place for them to go for one year.
If I were a WH fan I would be loving it, just as you are. you have a real chance to be a top 4 side, but I would just say be careful. I am sure Brown knows whats going on and wont let WH end up in the sh*t. But football in this country does not behave on sound economics anymore. the whole concept of a consumer driven business ie supply and demand has been blown to bits by extrememly wealthy men, who will just spend obsene money without the need for a return on the investment. our national sport is becoming a rich mans play thing. personally I dont like it and I am glad Arsenal were not bought out by one of these people.
Jonny - August 31st, 2006 at 9:32 am
Well there’s no doubt they are world-class and no doubt they are coming to West Ham, so I don’t know where that leaves your arguement.
For whatever reason they are at West ham, I am not naive enough to believe it’s for pure footballing reasons. They had probably never even heard of West Ham 10 days ago! I believe that MSI is sticking them in the ’shop window’ and we are the shop window of choice for MSI. Some fans have a problem with that, I don’t as long as it’s getting us 3 points every week.

Come to think of it…. having tevez and Mas going to West Ham would make the Premiership a more level playing field. They might give Chelsea a run for their money! Why should big names only go to the big 4? It’s actually quite an exciting prospect for the neutrals.
abramo owns 25% of msi!!!!! thats all i have to say!
You know that for a fact do you? Or you just quoting others? would it change if abramo was nothing but an old partner of a person in MSI? Are you saying Arsenal are owned by saints?
Jonny - August 31st, 2006 at 9:56 am
thing is its very hypocritical. WH fans moan like mad about chelski and ambramovich’s millions but then when you benefit from it, suddenly its OK.
I’m not sure how getting two players on loan for a year is the same as having a sugar daddy that can spend £30million at the drop of a hat.
If you want to be like that about it, everybody in the premiership has benifited from the knock on effects of RA’s millions.
gazzap - August 31st, 2006 at 10:00 am
arsenal are owned by a handful of people, the vast majority of whom have been connected with the club for decades through their families. there are a few businessmen there but mostly proper Arsenal people have control.
MP - August 31st, 2006 at 10:02 am
Look you bunch of freaks.
West Ham fans know what we are and where we stand with the so called ‘big clubs’ and god knows thats does not include the spuds.
IF and only if these two sign then fair play to us but they have not signed yet and we know it is unlikely they will be around for long but let us enjoy it while we can.
We are more concerned with losing Reo Coker!!!!

How Angry Am I???
iam bevildered at where football is going… if what is being said about chelsea n MSI are true… then iam preety sure whn abramovic bought chelsea he must hav tried to sign shevchenko n he must hav said no… so he must hav set up that american lady that he married n got pussy whipped to… to actually leave italy to come to an english speaking nation “England” ofcource to play footie n live… at the helm of chelsea… iam sure they r capable of this too… i just hope all this is rubbish and that united chelsea n arsenal and whoever are yet tryin their best to broker a deal either for 1 or both the players… nothing has been officially confirmed yet so all fans from manutd, arsenal n the rest tryin to sign em shud hav thier fingers crossed… If this is true then best of luck to WH as iam assured to be watching all their games this season….

If rumours are to be believed…. can’t wait when Arsenal match up with the hammers in a do-it-or-die match, either playing for the title or a place in the CL, with Tevez & Mas up against their traditional rivals Gilberto & the Beast…. and Reo-Coker scoring the winner…. in an Arsenal jersey!

I AM REPKA, I SPOKE TO WEST HAMS BOSS MAN AND HE SAID THAT HE WANTED TO GET TEVEZ AND PLAY HIM AT RB TO REPLACE ME REPKA, United and all that are crying and spurs every1 seems certain that they will move on. There is no proof of this, its just desperate fans making up things as they are gutted! These are west ham players now…DEAL WITH IT

MSI are run by Jorochabian and are rumoured to be funded by Berezovsky who hates Abramovich and has been locked in legal battles with him for years.
Lee - August 31st, 2006 at 11:20 am
ITS OFFICIAL!!….and on http://www.whufc.com it has been announced the pair have signed for “undisclosed fees” on “permanent contracts”! come on you irons!!
Redevil - August 31st, 2006 at 11:21 am
they are permanent deals!!! on undisclosed fees!! check out bbc site it was just announced… i cannot believe this shit iam sure the only possibility is that MSI are tryin to ensure a huge fee later on… givin WH the players and demanding the transfer fees once the deal is brokered… or there could be the option that they are going to buy out west ham united which i personally thinnk is possible and since corinthians have flopped… they might be looking to remove their stake in corinthians and buy out west ham united!!! watchya ppl think???

Who cares, happy hammers are going to shake up the Premier league now, better start holding onto your top 4 places big boys… the hammers are coming.

there are so many sour grapes coming from the Chelskiettes…………..just accept it. you will be put back where you belong. behind the hammers.
MSI are run by Jorochabian and are rumoured to be funded by Berezovsky who hates Abramovich and has been locked in legal battles with him for years.
This is true. Berezovsky was on TV earlier this year taking about how Abramovich blagged him to sell him his shares really cheap and he was after blood. The idea that they would have been in cahoots together in MSI is unlikley in the extreme. Chelsea have denied it again today (which they would anyway…).
Overall this si a good deal for Chelsea. Man U were seriously interested in Mascherano (as might Arse have been). I wouldn’t have minded Tevez being a striker at Chelsea, but the fact that he’s gone to WHU and not Arse, Poo or Mancs is a major plus. That’ll be another club aiming to push the unholy trinity out of a CL spot this season. Always welcome.
MSI’s £70m attempt to buy out West Ham last year means this isn’t the most surprising turn of events I could imagine. They’ll be well paid for this year-long PL advertisment, no doubt.
I was just wondering how empty the Emirates Stadium will be looking in February.
The deal I’m expecting next summer doesn’t involve Mascherano (already got Makelele covered by both Essien and Diarra) nor Tevez, but is Henry to Chelsea. He’s already made some interesting come and get me noises directed at Chelsea which I thought was very unexpected.
Man United 4 Life - August 31st, 2006 at 5:57 pm
As much as i am angry that WH got tevez and mascherano before MU had a chance. you have to hand it to them (WH). massive coup. and all you cynics quit it wont you, the players are playing 4 the hammers now. and ther is nothing MU or Chelsea can do about it. we will see in may wether you guys are right, and whether tevez and mascherano join MU or Chelsea.
but right now i see them playing 4 WH and thats about it. who cares where they will be playing next season, 4 all we know they could end up at Barcelona. so just appreciate that another 2 world class players will be gracing the premiership.
but hammers fans…dont you think you are getting ahead of yourselfs. you wont be in the champions league. may be uefa if you win the fa cup or carling cup. but good luck any way.
premiership may 2007
1)man united
2)chelsea
3)liverpool
4)tottenham
5)arsenal
6)west ham….if your lucky
Visiting Hammer - August 31st, 2006 at 7:02 pm
Worst case scenario is that West Ham have Tevez and ‘Pie-Masherano’, they push the team on, raise our profile in the world, attract a load of new fans and players and they piss off after a season.
What I think a lot of you don’t understand is that last season we crept up through the playoffs and had a great season after some fairly grim times in the CCC. Yet look through the England team and the spine are West Ham academy players. So this is not us selling our souls, just a lovely ride.
If ever a bunch of fans deserved some good times, it’s us. And outside the top three or four teams who think it’s their divine right to these players, the Premiership just got interesting at last.
srigz - August 31st, 2006 at 7:28 pm
I really am jeolous of you hammers. I am however happy as well for you cuse the hammers are me local club, its a shame my club rovers couldnt get anyone decent
bvb - September 1st, 2006 at 4:12 am
clearly west ham will win the premiership now and the champions league next year and will dominate the world for years to come. I especially like the part where someone replied to my post by saying the players have no choice because they’re “owned” by whoever. nice one. slavery is back ‘ammers - let the good times roll!
P.S. jokes aside. shouldn’t you at least see how your two new signings play before you start dreaming? they could take the whole year trying to get used to the premiership. anyways congratulations on Mascherano for I personally believe he is an outstanding player. Tevez has never impressed me. good luck!
SpotTheDog - September 1st, 2006 at 4:59 am
Yeah, like either of them even have a clue where West ham is. You are going to see two very unhappy players by Christmas. They have both been treated as the commodities they are and will resent that once they are here. Sort of reminds me of those Eastern European girls that get shipped here and have their passports taken away until they have paid back their fare on their backs. It’s such a dodgy deal I’m sure Kenyon must have been involved somewhere! If either of them are still at the Hammers next season I will eat every trophy they will win there this season (it will be a very short meal). Sorry Hammer fans but these guys are dancing in the wrong end of Town and will work that out for themselves very soon.
Lee - September 1st, 2006 at 5:23 am
right i’ve had enough of this story now… to be honest i couldnt give a monkeys if tevez and mascherano last 10 weeks or 10 years at west ham, fact of the matter is, they will be in our squad for the next premiership game! the sooner the likes of spuds, chelsea, arsenal, mancs and every other jealous w****r get used to it the better.
By the way, I’m an informed football fan but hadn’t really heard too much about either player before the WC. You’re telling me you knew of either player beyond what the tabs had told you? Saw footage of them playing at Corinthians did you?
How about the fact that Tevez single-handedly one the Olympic Gold for Argentina in games that were shown on the BBC and in various youth tournaments that get shown on eurosport. Just coz you’re too dumb to have heard of him it doesn’t mean that people who actually know about football haven’t.
Geir - September 1st, 2006 at 3:40 pm
Good for West Ham. They deserve quality players! Cheers, Man United - fan
True Grit - September 1st, 2006 at 4:58 pm
How angry are you? Not at all! THe only thing to be angry about is all these rumours flying around and ppl actually buy it… Have West Ham come out to confirm the signings? No. How can a player claim on his own website that he has signed for some team when the team he has “already†signed for hasn’t officially confirmed it? In the next few hours, you might see the argie players posting with Arsene in Arsenal jerseys still… and the West Ham fans will be really pissed!!

peter wilkin - October 23rd, 2006 at 5:12 pm
i hang my head in shame. I have been roundly chastised by articulate ‘ammers fans for my ignorance of world football as shown in my earlier posting. i hadnt realised that teves and maccareno or whatever his name is were both ‘world class’ players. looking at the signings now 2 months later my stupidity is apparent as the ‘ammers rampant premiership form has left me gasping for breath. forgive me for my earlier foolish comments. perhaps you can rent/lease some more argentinian players in the january transfer window to help speed you on your way back into the championship. yours in admiration, peter
The Grey Cardigan - May 30th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
I think west ham should just accept was has happened and be grateful.
The Grey Cardigan - May 30th, 2007 at 12:16 pm
… oh and some footballer predicted that who ever buys Tevez next year will win the premiership. Move aside Chelsea and Manu, the hammers are coming through. Tevez will stay and we’ll go unbeaten all season and win everything. I can’t wait.
Btw - I’m unstable and in no way should this statement be used for financial gain. LOL
