Arsenal’s awful keeper Manuel Almunia has, in a single interview, proved himself the World’s Greatest Comedian.
In speaking to Arsenal TV, the man who was rumored to get in a fist fight with David James over who was more calamitous and who was beaten at his near post twice (one through the legs for good measure) in his club’s Champions League final loss to Barcelona said,
“I am 100 per cent sure if I win my place with Arsenal and play for the first team, then I will play for Spain one day.”
“But, if not, in two years I can be English, take the nationality and then I can play for England. If someone wants me, I do not care about the nationality.”
“I am not as Spanish as many people, or very English – I do not care. I just want to play football at the top level.”
“If I cannot play for Spain, I can find the way to play for any other country.”
Almunia has started ten times for Arsenal in two years at the club, committing 391757 errors. He is best remembered for hilarious mistakes in key losses to Manchester United.
