West Ham And Tottenham Are Not Friends

Tomorrow’s London derby between Tottenham and West Ham is one of the more compelling in recent years. Both clubs had superb seasons last year, both are struggling somewhat this season and of course West Ham took advantage of Spurs’ bout of the sh*ts to deny them the fourth Champions League spot on the final day.

With Ledley King already acknowledging that this match has a little extra spice this time, Alan Pardew has upped the ante by declaring Tottenham to be West Ham’s biggest rivals on the club’s official site,

“We are working very hard and the mental attitude of all the players is that they know how massive a game this is for the club and for our fans of course, because Spurs are our biggest rivals, so it’s important to get something there.

We had two great results against Spurs last year and we will be looking to take that again.”

Given West Ham’s horrid run of form, one would generally put money on them winning on Sunday. Tottenham have often been a good luck charm for other clubs and players, with strikers seemingly always ending goal droughts and teams getting their first win in ages against them.

But as we are generally fascinated by the ebb and flow of Premiership rivalries, it’s interesting to see Alan Pardew naming Tottenham as West Ham’s arch rivals. Spurs supporters obviously consider Arsenal to be theirs, and often take the same “We don’t care about you because we’re better” stance that the Gooners maintain with them – not the least to get on their tits.

The boys over at GG-chat.net are already pondering the concept thoughtfully, and you can check out the discussion – with guest appearances from some kumb.com lads – here.
