The Premiership transfer window is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Here’s our thoughts on some of that more interesting nonsense…
David Moyes is set to spend £5.5 million bringing Joey Barton to Everton. The Man City midfielder has a release clause triggered by any bids over £5 million.
CaughtOffside Says: Everton were Barton’s boyhood team and he’s exactly the kind of blood-and-guts midfielder that would fit into David Moyes’ system. Plus, all their fans know what his arse looks like. He handed in a transfer request in January 2006, wanting a move to a Champions League club. He might have to settle for Everton. But the whole thing hinges on…
Simon Davies proposed move from Everton to Fulham for £2.5 million
CaughtOffside Says: Fulham are fast becoming the trasnfer window’s most interesting club having already signed Clint “Deuce” Dempsey and Vincenzo Montella, and also selling Luis Boa Morte to West Ham. But we’re not sure what Coleman sees in Davies that Tottenham, Everton, and everyone else doesn’t.
Word is that Ashley Young rejected a move to West Ham after Curbishley’s £10 million bid was accepted by Watford. Even an apparent £50,000 per week wage packet wasn’t enough to tempt him. This leaves Aston Villa and Spurs needing to match the Hammers’ offer to get their man.
CaughtOffside Says: Seems a wee bit greedy for a young lad who has played decently in one half of a Premiership season. More than likely, he’s just been convinced to stay through the end of the season with the understanding that his value will probably only go up by the summer. Either that, or swapping one relegation candidate doesn’t have the appeal it used to.
Arsenal’s Lauren has also rejected a move to West Ham, apparently not keen to get involved with all that nasty relegation business.
CaughtOffside Says: Hard to disagree really, for some reason we reckon Curbs will go in for Tottenham’s Paul Stalteri next.
Manchester United are still interested in signing Bayern’s Owen Hargreaves.
CaughtOffside Says: We know.
Chelsea will sign Bolton’s Tal Ben Haim at cut price as a peace offering to Jose Mourinho.
CaughtOffside Says: Did Roman Abramovich just get his credit card statement for the last three years or something?
