Latest Transfer Rumours: Villa, Distin, Soares, All Of West Ham

The world of Premiership transfer rumours is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Here’s our opinion on some of that more interesting nonsense… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.

Sylvain Distin could be leaving Man City for Fulham.

CaughtOffside Says: Fulham continue to strengthen their squad en masse, this time going from Zat Knight to Sylvain Distin. But for someone who everyone thought was heading to bigger and better things, this isn’t really that much of a step up.

David Villa has said once again that he’s flattered by Chelsea and Liverpool’s interest, but wants to stay in Spain thank you very much.

CaughtOffside Says: For some reason we just feel like Villa would be the next big name to disappoint. Maybe he saw what happened to Fernando Morientes, or maybe he just thinks La Liga is better. Think about: if you are Spanish, and you speak Spanish, and you play in the Spanish league, and play really well in the Spanish league, then why would you want to cross the sea to play in the kick and rush Premiership? What’s that? Wheelbarrows of cash? Oh alright then.

Arsenal are willing to pay £6 million for Ajax’s pacy wideman Ryan Babel.

CaughtOffside Says: Marco van Basten called Babel “the new Thierry Henry”. So with Theo Walcott already wearing that albatross, Arsenal could have two new Thierry Henrys plus the original in their squad next season.

Crystal Palace’s Tom Soares could be wearing a Bolton Wanderers shirt next season.

CaughtOffside Says: Big Sam to sign young English player. Hooray! Soares would add another big, athletic body to the Bolton midfield and, even better, he’s ace on FM.

West Ham Relegation Clear-Out Special

You know it’s coming. Here’s a quick run down of who’s rumoured to be going where if when West Ham go down:

Yossi Benayoun – Portsmouth
Marlon Harewood – Tottenham
Paul Konchesky – Manchester City
Matthew Etherington – Manchester City
Roy Carroll – contract terminated
Lee Bowyer – contract terminated

CaughtOffside Says: We’re not sure what Spurs want with Harewood, and imagine Berbatov would be physically sick if he had to play alongside the big clogger, but Benayoun would be a great signing for Pompey. Of course the big names like Tevez, Ferdinand, Reo-Coker et al will also be off and things will be eerily reminiscent of the last time West Ham went down, when all the players responsible got fat contracts elsewhere.
