Nugent Wanted To Play For Everton, Signs With Portsmouth

Well, guess not all football stories have a fairytale ending. Despite a much-publicised desire to play for his boyhood/family club Everton, David Nugent was presented today by Harry Redknapp and Portsmouth along with Nigerian John Utaka. Nugsy and Utaka will give some new life to a Pompey front line that relied heavily on 77 year old Kanu and Benjani – whose best ability is running around a lot and then failing to score.

Nugent, though, took time out to once again mention the fact that Everton missed the boat,

“I met Harry and we had a few words together. He impressed me so that’s why I joined.

“It was a big decision for me to play in the Premiership. It’s my career I had to look after it.

“You see the squad, it’s full of great names, great signings and I’m looking forward to joining up with them.

“(Everton) are my boyhood club, but I’m not going to wait around forever. Portsmouth came in and I’m happy to be here.”
