A late Lyon goal denied Bolton the opportunity to win the Peace Cup out in Korea, which would have put helped them to the same silverware Premiership rivals Spurs, who lifted the cup last summer.

Speaking to the Bolton official site, the club’s novelty managerial gnome said,

“Both teams made it an entertaining final and Lyon showed why they are one of the best teams in Europe. Their movement was terrific, especially their front three. However, we stuck to our task – showed a lot of spirit and, above all else, finished the game strong.

“Our preparation has been very good over in Korea.I asked the lads to improve in every game and we are making the right progress. We have four or five games to go before the new season starts and it is all about being mentally and physically ready for the 11 August.

“Jussi was at his very best today. He was one of the best ‘keepers last season in the Premier League and from what we have seen in Korea he can only get better. He made some crucial saves throughout the tournament.”

[Update: Spurs won this illustrious trophy the year before last, apparently, making it 2 years since their most prestigious trophy]
