Carragher: Chelsea Rule, Manchester United Suck.
July 30, 2007
At least according to Liverpool nutter Jamie Carragher, who threw down a prediction with the Premiership season just a couple weeks away,
“United may be the champions but Chelsea are really the ones you have to use as your yardstick,” he said.
“With Petr Cech being back at his peak there is no better ‘keeper and John Terry in front of him is going to give Chelsea a real chance again.
“The team which finishes above Chelsea will win it this season.
“United are a great side and have strengthened again. Carlos Tevez would make a big difference to their chances. Hopefully, they won’t get him,” said Carragher
Jamie, or J-dog to his friends, might merely be pandering to his fans by taking the piss out of United or he may simply be realistic. United may have strengthened with some talented youngsters, but there’s Mourinho’s side still have a squad deep with players in their physical prime while Sir Alex must hope the genetic dice are rolled in his favour again next year so Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs can maintain their form. If not, the team suddenly looks distinctly less inspiring unless the likes of Nani and Anderson can somehow settle immediately from day one and boss some big matches.
No mention of his own club’s prospects, but with some big spending this summer surely expectations at Anfield must be that the team who finishes above Liverpool will win it?

Got something to say?

Big spending at Anfield? What, £26M net spend counts as big spending now?
It’s not even Rafa’s biggest spending summer.
Shit, if £26M means you expect to finish in the top 2 then a decent proportion of the EPL is going to be disappointed.
Wigan’s chairman declared he had a similar budget the summer they came up. Fucking Wigan!
Or would knowing any of this require, you know, research?

Uh what the fuck does “net” spend have to do with it? It’s still big SPENDING regardless of what you recouped, if Liverpool sold Gerrard for 100 million to Chelsea and then spent 100 million on new players, you’d go around telling everyone that you didn’t spend a lot just because the net was 0?
Nice brain, Scouser, try not to act smart next time when you’re actually a moron.

Who gives a shit about net spend? It’s an excuse laid out by you and your shit fans for while you won’t achieve anything.
You spent a shedload of money, in excess of 50 million pounds. It’s not an issue of research it’s a matter of realising that net spend doesn’t mean anything.
Or would knowing of of this require, you know, not being a complete idiot?

It’s over 50 million spent for Liverpool this summer which represents a lot more, and shattering the single transfer record for Fernando Torres is a big deal as well. Anyone who doesnt think that this has been a big summer for Liverpool is an idiot. So that would mean you are an idiot. Congratulations.

Wigan Gross Spend 05/06: 11 million
Wigan Net Spend 05/6: 4 million

tosser.
Meh, am gonna have to disagree with Carra on this one. Especially since Chelsea will lose some of its best players to the African Cup (Drogba, Essien, MikeL). I also think Man U can withstand a drop in form from Scholes and Giggs. If they stick to their traditional 4-4-2, they can destroy most of the premiership fielding their back 4, Ronaldo-Carrick-Hargreaves-Nani in the midfield, and Rooney/Tevez up top.
I think Tevez is now the key to Man U.
Hi,
I love big money. So I love Chelsea.

I’m a fan. I don’t need an excuse for how the team perform.
They keep coming third, and only reaching the final of or winning the CL every couple of years - which obviously pisses me off because it’s LFC.
It just beats me where all this ‘ooh LFC were poor before, but now they are minted’ shit comes from, when they are spending around the same amount they always have.
I’ll still be irritated if they only manage 3rd while oiks from Manchester top the table. But for exactly the same reason I’ve been irritated every other fricking year. Because it’s liverpool, and liverpool are not supposed to go around coming 3rd. Spending almost exactly the same amount as every other year is not going to get me any more annoyed.

Which is why I said ‘budget’. Wigan’s chairman made great play about the amount he was able to spend; and good for him. Both in that he made more than 4 million available, and in that he didn’t insist on wasting it when he couldn’t get the right players *cough*WestHam*cough*.
Haha, all this big talk by rafa and co., haven’t we heard it already last year? It sounds as if he was spending pennies. Last season united spent less than chelsea, and they even had net profit from transfers and still won the league. Enough excuses rafa, put up or shut up.
i say who gives a damn about how much each team spends on players, if my team gets raped 4-0 but spent 40 million pounds less during the transfer window im still going to be fucking depressed for a few days. carra is right, chelsea will be very hard to beat next year, cech is arguably the best keeper in the world and it always takes something special to beat him. they will still play boring shit football and will still be the cure for insomnia, and if anything they will be even more defensive next season because Mourinho lost his first leauge title in what, four years or something, and will be looking to put that right.
cant wait for the community shield
don’t be stupid la… chelsea?? ya… i can’t deny chelsea may be good, but the strength of the squad is not as good as MU, last season injury of terry prove that, if terry or cech injered, that the end of chelsea… see mu, even ferdinand and vidic both injured, still manage to win…. and now see the arrival of nani, hargreave, mu become stronger… Liverpool? suck la… never win mu also…. haha…

You’re forgetting that ‘Pool got Mascherano in January for 20m+. If you want to go by net spending then look at United last year. The team that is apparently trying to buy the league spent 14m (rising up to 18 depending on success) on Carrick and he was better than Alonso last year and they made 22m on sales from RvN and Mikel so we spent nothing and won the prem meanwhile ‘Pool have spent 30m+ at least every year Rafa has been there. But of course United are the big spenders.

Actually, last season both Rafa and *ahem* “J-Dog” came out and said we need at least another season or two to compete for the title.
it’s all stupid money since the village idiot from russia came to spoil the game - who cares, it’s ludicrous and it’s out of hand and it allows arseholes like Posh n Becks to dominate the sporting headlines just because they are mixing with Hollywood Whores so football is just a backdrop for all these rich twats with their yachts and big weddings - just hope we beat those manure fuckheads home and away and we are right at the top come May 08
Oh how times have changed, eh Bill? All you scousers forget that the billy big bollox spice girl team you had in the 90’s (remember the cup final of ‘96?) were full of the glitz and glamour of would-be Hollywood superstars despite winning jack shit!!
Don’t you think it’s cute how at the start of every season Liverpool think they’re gonna win the league? Makes me wanna roll ‘em on their backs and scratch their little scouser bellies!!

we don’t. ask any real fan - this is the first season for years when I’ve had even a modicum of optimism. And even now it’s tempered by the fact that cunts are still running the game.

Its horses for courses Bill and somewhat double standards from your good self.
