Ex-Arsenal striker Ian ‘Wrighty’ Wright, has added his (no doubt hugely unwelcome) tuppence worth to the whole Martin Jol debate. Wright claims that Gareth Bale was the only summer signing that Martin Jol wanted, and that the others were forced on him.
We are unsure what is more shocking about this; Ian Wright’s claims, or the fact that a Sun story is being reported in the Daily Mail…
Anyway, on to the allegations… Ian Wright said :
“Word reaches me that not all of Tottenham’s summer signings were brought in by Jol.In fact, it appears that the arrival of Gareth Bale was the only one he requested and this is extremely worrying. The most high-profile signing was the £16.5m they shelled out for Darren Bent and it doesn’t seem as though Jol really wanted him, although little wonder when you think they already had three top-class strikers. That money could have been used elsewhere to strengthen other areas – like a left-sided midfield player.”
More than likely the ‘Word’ that reached Ian Wright was from a Spurs supporting mate as the rumour that Damien Comolli is signing players Jol doesn’t want has been doing the rounds for a while. But everyone at the club has always denied this is the case and, while Jol may have had to be convinced that Didier Zokora was worth more than a bag of toenails, the final say has always been claimed to be Martin’s.
But what do Spurs fans think, is Jol in an even worse situation than we think?
