Transfer Rumours and Gossip: Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland, West Ham, Everton, Birmingham

Sportingo.com’s Mark Apostolou brings daily coverage of the Premier League’s rumours and gossip.

Celtic keeper Artur Boruc has stunned the Parkhead club by announcing that he may consider buying out the final year of his contract (Sunday Mail). This news has alerted a number of clubs, including north London rivals Spurs and Arsenal, keen to snap up the quality Polish keeper.

Both clubs have had problems with their keepers. Tottenham’s Paul Robinson and Jens Lehmann at Arsenal have both found their No. 1 spot taken by less experienced keepers recently. The 27-year-old Polish stopper is a class act who’s done wonders for the Glasgow side, but he may seek fame and fortune in the English Premier League even though Celtic have brought him Champions League football, something Spurs are unlikely to provide him with, which must make the Emirates the more likely destination should he choose to leave Scotland.

Rafa Benitez is under a great deal of pressure at Liverpool. The Merseysiders find themselves well off the pace behind the league leaders and they could miss out on qualification for the knock-out stages of the Champions League. It appears that the Spanish boss is keen to bring in more firepower and apparently the striker who has caught his eye is Sunderland’s Trinidad forward Kenwyne Jones (The People).

Not a player I would personally have expected Rafa to be looking to bring in (after all Benitez already has an array of international front men on his books) and some would think that the former Southampton man is hardly a step ahead of what is already on the Anfield roster. That being said, Jones has adjusted well to life in the Premier League scoring four in his first seven starts. He may also be the type prepared to be used sparingly, something that Peter Crouch has clearly had enough of.

Alan Curbishley is a man on a mission when it comes to chasing Everton striker Andy Johnson. Curbs is refusing to take no for an answer and this January will put in a new £9million bid (News of the World).

The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham attacker is currently sidelined but that has not got in the way of the West Ham bosses interest. Johnson is also woefully short of goals in recent months and seems to be out of David Moyes’ plans for the time being. Upton Park’s top striker, Dean Ashton is again injured, hence the urgency in the AJ approach. It’s a move I can see happening in January and I would say that the £9m fee is a fair one.
