Arsenal Boss Says Bust-Up Rumours Are Utter Tripe
October 31, 2007
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger thinks that any talk of a bust-up with Gilberto Silva is utter tosh. With The Daily Mail is today reporting about these rumours, so does that mean Arsene thinks that the Daily Mail, without a doubt this country’s most gloriously un-garrulous newspaper, is tosh? Hmmm…
Rumours are rife that Gilberto is a tad miffed to say the least at not starting a game for Arsenal since mid-September. The Brazilian has been shunted to the bench by the younger steam engineswith Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini.
Wenger aggressively denied talk of any bust-up, the Arsenal boss said:
“I deny that (a bust-up) categorically, I find this assessment disrespectful to a great professional like Gilberto. He is 100 per cent professional and is in the squad for Sheffield United. He will play.”
Arsene went on to praise Gilberto for his positive attitute and for thinking holistically rather than of himself:
“I believe that as a manager and as a player you always have one thing in your mind and that is what is good for the club and the team. I cannot fault Gilberto on that since he arrived here. Recently he has played less, but his mentality has been superb.”
Did he just call Gilberto a mental? BUST-UP ALERT!

Got something to say?

how old must gilberto feel tonite, he is like a baby sitter! haha
For a start please proof read!!
And two, if there’s no bust up, how come in the Carling Cup Fabianski was made a captain and Gilberto wasn’t even though he played? Surely something wrong there…
another cheap shot to bring down arsenal… as cheap as the author…

mm, still doesn’t mean theirs a bust up. gilberto will no he’ll be playing regular enough first team football once we get into the winter and the fixure pile up. plus the inevitable injuries.
yup gilberto is mature enough to know that it’s not a personal attack. who knows why Arsene made fabianski captain, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt - it could be as simple as to develop the young keeper’s mentality. If something happens to Almunia while Jens is still ‘unavailable’ Fabianski has to be able to step up to the plate and do it well.
Gilberto will play more and so will Fabianski - I think Arsene simply had to ask himself who would benefit more from being captain at a Carling Cup game, the up-and-coming keeper or the world cup winning midfielder?
Fabianski was made captain because it was his birthday. It was a treat from Arsene arranged with Fabianski’s wife.
Something fishy about this… it’s not as straightforward as a bust-up. Apparently Wenger went on to refer to a news article from The Independent. Have a look at this, it’s quite telling.

It’s the Wenger Conspiracy

Cute, if only Fabianski’s birthday wasn’t on April 18. But lo and behold, it is.
we say stuff yer dailymail-style 5hit-stirring about Gilberto and shove it up yer 4rse. Wenger explained that Fabianski had the armband because Gilberto hadn’t played in the early games of the Carling Cup. Ironically, the same 5hit-rag paper has Gils back in the team to face the Mancs on Saturday. We too think you should proof-read, but would go further than the poster who said the article was as cheap as the author and suggest that the article was as cheap as the author’s mother with the luncheon voucher discount.
