Tottenham and Arsenal Keepers; Is there something in the water?

Something is clearly in the water in North London, as the ‘keepers up there have been acting very bizarrely, first Robinson’s abysmal start to the season, and then some gaffe-packed performances from Lehmann followed by some bitter allegations thrown out to the lad who usurped his place in the team.

Paul Robinson has today yelped from the highest north London rooftop – ‘You won’t force me out of White Hart Lane’, at least according to the fictiona department at The Daily Mail.

Robinson, who could be on his way out if Juade Ramos has his way and raid Sevilla for Andres Palop, was pleased with his performance in Tottenham’s 2-0 win against high flying Blackpool. Robbo said:

“We will see what happens and whether he makes any signings, but I am confident I am No.1 at this club and that it will stay that way. It’s very pleasing for me to get a first win for a few weeks and a clean sheet as well. It came on my 150th appearance for the club so it was a good night all round. I feel totally fit now after my calf problem. I’m just delighted to be back.”

Meanwhile, the Arsenal ‘keeper Manuel Almunia, has the full confidence of his teammates (aside from Jens Lehmann that is!).
The Sun claims that Cesc Fabregas said:

“We feel VERY secure when Manuel is between the posts! The only thing I can say is that, right now, Almunia is doing very well. I’ve known him for three years and I know what he is capable of. But we’ll see what happens and if the coach will decide to bring back Jens. It’s not a decision I can take as it is a matter for the coach.”

However, whilst Cesc was singing Almunia’s praises, bitter Jens scuttled out of the cave he has been stewing it, shook his fists at some journos and then uttered yet another challenge to Arsenal’s #1. Lehmann ranted:

“Almunia has yet to show he can win matches. I know what the other players expect from the goalkeeper. I can’t imagine that Almunia will be able to handle that.”
