Beckham recalled to England squad

We have seen some pretty impressive charity matches. The best was when Paul Gascoigne and Chris Evans played at Torquay United, oh the larks. But did either of them get an England call for their troubles? Not a bloody chance!

And so we come to the new England squad, and who should pop up but LA’s favourite charity footballer David Bekham. No surprise really, and two appearences would leave Becks stranded on 99 caps when Stevie Mac is dismissed after the Croatia game (oh come on, you know it’s true). Other interesting call-ups, none that we can see, although a squad without Rio’s wind ups is good on the eye. Here it is anyway:

Full squad: Robinson (Tottenham), James (Portsmouth), Carson (Liverpool, on loan at Aston Villa); Richards (Man City), P Neville (Everton), Brown (Man Utd), Campbell (Portsmouth), Lescott (Everton), A Cole (Chelsea), Bridge (Chelsea), Shorey (Reading); Beckham (LA Galaxy), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Bentley (Blackburn), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Barry (Aston Villa), J Cole (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Hargreaves (Man Utd), Young (Aston Villa); Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Man Utd), Crouch (Liverpool), Smith (Newcastle), Defoe (Tottenham).

And with that Steve McClaren never had to call-up a player again, goodbye Steve it hasn’t been fun knowing you.
