Gullit named new LA Galaxy coach

Hollywood and football don’t mix, you only have to see the film Goal II to know that. And David Beckham’s strange Hollywood adventure only goes prove our point, but it is fun to watch him try to make football big Stateside. The latest strange twist, Frank Yallop has been replaced with Ruud Gullit as Becks’ manager. No really.

The BBC reported it with the usual understatement:

“If Beckham is MLS’s highest-profile player, arguably Dutchman Gullit, who was European Footballer of the Year in 1987, is set to become the league’s highest-profile manager.”

Really? Ya think? More high-profile than Steve Nicol? Maybe, just maybe, that’s why they appointed him, not his startling work at Newcastle.

And here was us hoping Steve McClaren had been over there to discuss contract details for next season. Even they aren’t that stupid.
