Derby County 0-5 West Ham: Is “Pride Park” a misnomer?

Poor manager Billy Davies is swiftly going to run out of things to say as his Debry side’s barrel-scrapingly bad form continues.

West Ham routed Derby 5-0 yesterday despite being hit by a slew of injuries, not to mention the fact that the game was being played at Pride Park. Davies said, with his stiff upper lip firmly lodged in place:

“At the end it was men against boys. That is not an excuse. The excuse is that in the first 20 minutes we had opportunities to take the lead, we still had enough quality on that pitch to pick up points but it wasn’t to be.”

Is there anything that Davies can do to stem the tide? He keeps on using the January transfer window as a potential get out of jail free card, but who will want to sign for a Derby team that could be well adrift come the new year?

The only realistic question is whether Derby sack Davies in some last throw of the dice, or accept that this squad is not ready yet but they maybe do have the right man in charge.
