Portsmouth’s Benjani Tops Charts Everywhere and even FIFA Love Him!

Pompey goal machine Benjani Mwaruwari isn’t just leading the Premier League goalscoring charts, the goal maniac is also top of the Actim Index for stikers, and second overall. And it isnt just the Egg-headed statisticians singing his praises, the Zimbabwean lord of the goal is also being buttered up with effusive praise on the FIFA website which led a debate asking: “Who is the best African player?”

Mwaruwari is free this weekend with the Euro 2008 qualifiers going on and Harry is desperate for the striker not to have any ‘wicked transfer thoughts’ seep into his mind. This hasn’t stopped Italian Club Juventus having a hearty sniff around the transfer sensation, they are even reported to be lining up a £7m bid, which seems tight even by Ebeneezer Scrooge’s standards.
Redknapp was having none of it, and dismissed these dodgy rumours, saying :

“Benjani is going nowhere. He is a big player for us, an important one. (Club chairman) Peter Storrie is going to sit down with him and start talking about another contract. He has come so far for us and it’s great to see him scoring goals. It’s good to see him getting his reward for how he’s been playing. He is full of confidence at the moment and it’s brilliant to see.”

Hmmm, that’s squashed those rumours nicely.
