Will Manchester United Beat Chelsea to Land ‘New Vidic’?

Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that he considers the current Man United squad to be good enough to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League this season. Given their campaign so far, there is little reason to doubt him, aside from occasionally lacking a cutting edge without Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, defensive cover could be on the way to Old Trafford in the form of Branislav Ivanovic, if the Lancashire Evening Post are to be believed.

The Manchester United boss has admitted that cover for Patrice Evra at left back maybe the only position he will strengthen in the January transfer window.

And a mid-winter trip to Russia could be on the cards with Lokomotiv Moscow’s £10m-rated versatile defender Branislav Ivanovic on the Reds radar.

Ivanovic appears to have attracted the attention of a number of clubs, including Chelsea, Milan, Barcelona and Juventus. However, United got their man when they landed Nemanja Vidic from Spartak Moscow two seasons ago and now seem interested in raiding Russian neighbours Lokomotiv for another Serbian to slot into their defence.
