Arsenal Hit Back At Chelsea Taunts

Arsene Wenger is in a fighting mood, hitting back at Avram Grant’s suggestions that Arsenal’s squad will wither under the heat of injuries and cramped fixture lists. Wenger said:

“We focus on ourselves and our performances. We played a fantastic game against Aston Villa just two games ago. We had a very average game at Middlesbrough and we lost. My squad is very determined and very strong. If you had listened to what people said before the season we would be 10th or 12th in the league and be out of everything. At the moment we are in everything.”

Having wrapped up the matter of answering Grant’s claims, Wenger then went on to prove the depth of his squad by having a little fiddle and throwing his German loon keeper into the mix tonight for Arsenal’s game against Steaua Bucharest and that the loon German won’t be going anywhere in January. Wenger said:

“I decided when we qualified with two games to go that the game in Spain would be played by Almunia and the game in England by Lehmann. It is not a present. It is to keep him fit and competitive. I can’t guarantee he will be here for the second half of the season but I can’t make that guarantee about anyone.”
