Nine yellow cards in Sunday’s Arsenal-Chelsea match tells its own story. While both teams still had 11 men on the pitch by the end of the game, Blues’ boss Avram Grant reckoned that Emmanuel Eboue was lucky to escape with just a yellow card after his foul on John Terry that caused the Chelsea and England captain to suffer ankle ligament damage.
“I don’t think he’s broken anything, but we’ll know tomorrow,” Grant said. “I need to see it, but people who saw it on TV said it was a red card.”
With Grant recently claiming that his Chelsea team are unfairly targeted by referees, this will only serve to anger the west London club further. The match was an ill-tempered affair, made worse by the return of Ashley Cole to his former club for the first time.
So should the mental Ivorian have gone? Or is it another case of John Terry coming off poorly in a 50/50 with an Arsenal player?
