Toon fans: would you be happy with Martin Jol at St James’ Park?
by Dexter on December 29th, 2007So the Chelsea v Newcastle game is currently underway, and after a mere quarter of an hour Obafemi Martins’ verbal diarrhoea style of football has already seen him squander a useful looking chance. There is one man, however, that we n be sure is watching events with an eagle eye; Martin Jol. The Sun reports, in an “exclusive” no less, that big Martin Jol is ready to bring his ogre-faced style of management to St James’ Park if things continue to go pear shaped for Sam Allardyce.
Sun journo Mar Irwin writes:
“Martin Jol is ready to take charge at Newcastle if Sam Allardyce gets the bullet. Jol was offered the Toon job before Big Sam was appointed in May but the Dutchman stayed at Spurs. Now he is waiting for another call from St James’ Park and believes he can live up to their expectations.”
The Sun, nearly wetting themselves with the unbridled joy of grabbing a journalistic “exclusive”, seem very excited about the possibility of a Jol takeover at Newcastle. Toon fans: do you feel the same?

No thanks doesn’t make me too excited.
I think we need a really world class manager.
Richard - December 29th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Big Sam has just started and needs time, but Martin Jol is a very good manager

absolutely no!!! we must find any world class manager!!
CW - December 29th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
I’d sooner have Big Martin Jol than Allardyce any day of the week. Shearer and Keegan? Do me a favour.
GuySpur - December 29th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
I know! A team with a great tradition of winning absolutely nothing shouldn’t jeopardise that by getting in a good manager. Haha. We’re certainly not a part of the elite just yet but it does make me laugh how you guys expect to attract a top manager. You’re a mid table team just like us, but unfortunately you haven’t even got a decent history to look back on. You could do a lot worse by getting Jol in, Man U thought he was good enough to consider him as a No.2 but don’t expect any positive subs.
juande-ful - December 29th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
i wouldn’t think jol would belittle himself and join the toon
Jollygoodman - December 29th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
Jol is a brilliant coach. Spurs played two consecutive seasons in Europe under Jol and None of the previous managers (Premier League) ever did that at Spurs.Spurs fans are ungrateful lots…WELCOME TO THE NORTH EAST MR. JOL!
Mister Sateh. - December 29th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Martin Jol would be an excellent choice for a club with style like Newcastle. But please, dear friends of football, there is not a brother called Dick Jol! He is the bestknown referee in The Netherlands and a distant cousin. His senior brother is Cornelis, be a bit more stylish please and the more senior brother Colonel K. Jol retired used to be the first Mountain Leader Officer in Great Britain and he became also a Headcoach but than for Combat and Mountain and Arctic warfare training in the Royal Netherlands Marines in the UK/NL Amphibious force for The Northern Front of Nato in the seventies. They call him Colonel Sateh after he survived in a rather miraculous way a skistick through his entire body from anus till neck from one of his marines in Norway!Anyway he wishes You all the very best of Football, even so at White Heart Lane, where he was present at the Getafegame! He then wished to be buried in snow as 29 years ago in Norway! TRA and Jolly Goodbye!
WallsendToonArmy - December 29th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Who are we kidding, we’re not going to get a world class manager in. Of most of the modern day managers, we haven’t won anything in their lifetimes. Why would they come to us?
We are small time these days, and we should be grateful for what we can get. Mr Jol will do me fine.
martin jol - December 29th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
you say you want a world class manager, and in the same breath you say you want shearer????? so what happens when shearer gets the job but ends up doing s**t???? doea everyone then start getting on his case??
steve - December 29th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
True, Shearer as great as he was, and he was great, has never managed before in his life and although he carries a fair bit of clout there, can’t see him taking over up there lads. Martin Jol would be a fine aquisition as long as your board let him do his job. That was the reason he failed at spurs. He wanted to buy experienced players, for now, where as the board want only young, promising stars, for the future to maintain their “transfer value”… This is why spurs haven’t qualified for the Champions League for the last 2 seasons. Where we could have signed Martin Petrov and Elano, who we were in advanced negotiations with, thanks to Jol, we signed Darren Bent, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale! Bent is a good goalscorer but not worth anywhere near £16.5m which with such a heavy cost, comes pressure to perform. Kaboul is the France U21 captain so therefore can’t be a bad buy although has had a dreadful start to his career in England and Gareth Bale, absolutely top class youngster and will become one of the best players in England within the next few years. kevin-Prince Boateng is another young player we signed who has a massive reputation in Germany, having won the German young player of the year award twice in succession so another “promising young player” but not for the now! Jol wants players who are good NOW who can win things NOW like Arshavin. Very highly rated and rightly so but again, as usual, Spurs didn’t sign him when they had the chance. If Jol is given room to work at Newcastle, you will break the top 4 and maybe even start to challenge the title within the next few years, guaranteed. I’m finished rambling now…

Jol at Newcastle is like for like with Big Sam and you’d do better to stick it out with your man for at least another two seasons.
You Newcastle supporters really need to get behind your manager and stop living in the Keagan days. Those days are well behind you and i’m sorry to say even if you still had Keagan incharge with that same team you’d still be having the same troubles. Teams have got a lot better since those days and it’s just something you’ll have to accept before Big Sam has a chance of moving the team forward and achieving something.

Martin Jol will take you to a certain level like he did with us them thats it folks!
Remember Keegan this will be no different

Well, 3 managers have faced the sack after losing to chelsea this season… FAT SAM’S NEXT. Ha Ha Ha
Elano's Cousin - December 30th, 2007 at 7:11 am
Ahhhh…so you barcodes - sorry, I mean jailbars - actually HAVE bought old Cod Face Rollthedice’s line about Petrov and Elano? I suppose you also believe his guff about almost buying Castillo too, right? Puh-lease! I expect the fishmonger will soon trot out “We almost got Riquelme / Diego / Adriano / Batista / Crouch / Deco / takeyourpickmakesyourchoice to sign before City snook in and grabbed another one from us.”
You can see what he is doing can’t you? Oh, and how’s Chav Barton working out for you then? I expect Fat Sam will make an offer for Lee Bowyer soon: Smith, Barton, Bowyer…class. You need to understand something: like it or not, Newcastle is NOT competative as a place to live in or around or commute from for MOST top class footballers. You are at a competative disadvantage from the off, and what Southgate has said about Middlesborough, also applies to Sunderland and you. It’s sad, I think, but true.
Elano's Cousin - December 30th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Oops…two sets of delusionals: my mistake, I can’t keep track…not only has rotund Samuel spread the muck about almost grabbing City players (his latest being Nery Castillo), it seems Spurs lemmings are also buying into the same line under the Jolmeister.
I guess it makes it easier that way.
Steve - December 30th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
this is all a joke jol isent coming and there is notting wrong with Big Sam he just needs time about 2 years and if he hasent got anywhere by then well let him go.
And its not that long ago on sky tv there was a wolly on saying Big Sam is the man to Captain our ship now that is a real plunker. Sam is the man for yous lot up there who in there right mind would go there to get insulted by a load of wollys please stay there big SAM YOUR DOING A GREAT JOB THERE.
Whogivesafuck - December 30th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Elano’s cusin, slagging off three fan bases at the same time- why not include Celtic, Rangers, they are futher north of the boarder ?Or is it the north like Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, and most of the prem. My God we have not even left these shores yet. Tell me what do you think of black players playing, or is it just Geordies ?
madbul - December 30th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
do not know about Elano, but Petrov wanted to join the Spurs (and Spurs inquired about him at Atletico) and his best (football) friend - Berbatov.
Just imagine speedy Martin Petrov flying down the left wing centering for Berbatov - tall and able. Not like Lennon and the crew tripping over the ball.
And this almost happened but Spurs offered 20-25K a week, City offered 40-50K, and that was it.

The board should think well and hard about this. First of all I think Sam has lost the plot, but while every day goes by I hope he turns it round, because he is the one in the hot seat. I think he can, if he listens to his players, the fans, and looks at some Toon history ( attack, attack attack ). He will need cash to spend, some now more in the summer. He will need to bring in attacking midfielders, convince the players he has- this is the place to be. We may not expect europe, and we may finish mid table, but and it’s a big but, he has to convince us he is the man for the job. So far I would welcome the news he was out ! Now then, no point in getting rid of him, for a middle of the row manager. This guy has to have the same impact as Keegan. If we get such a man remains to be seen, but that is what the fans want. Then spend, spend, spend untill it hurts. That is the only way history, and I mean history. Shearer is on for the future.
Mabhunu Kunetsa - December 31st, 2007 at 3:44 pm
SAM is a cheque book manager. You are not going anywhere. Martin JOL is fit for the championship. He was going to be relegated with SPURS this season if he had stayed.
NEWCASTLE need a proper manager. The job is too big for these two!!
