Wigan’s draw at Anfield was just their third point on the road this season, yet Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is bemoaning the fact that if his team had enjoyed ‘some luck’ during Wednesday night’s game, then the Reds would have won. How about if your team had played to their full potential against relegation candidates instead, Rafa? The Times report that the Spaniard is still reasonably optimistic about the season ahead.
“I’m really disappointed because it’s another game where we needed a bit of luck,” Benítez said. “It’s clear that the gap is bigger, but we have said before that it is a long race. We just need to think about one game at a time. If you think about more than the next game, you will play with more pressure.
“It’s more difficult [to challenge for the title] now, for sure. If you lose points like we did today, it will be more difficult. I think we need now to think about the FA Cup and then think about the next [league] game. The season is very long.”
Liverpool travel to Luton in the FA Cup on Sunday – fingers crossed that they enjoy some of the luck that’s been eluding them!
