New England manager Fabio Capello may have enjoyed the Rooney and Ronaldo show at Villa Park on Saturday, yet if he’d opted instead for a trip to Portman Road, he would have witnessed an outstanding goalkeeping display from Portsmouth’s David James.
It’s fair to say that Ipswich Town would be featuring in Monday’s fourth-round draw but for the 37-year-old’s heroics, and the Daily Express report that his club manager Harry Redknapp can’t believe there’s any English keeper in better form at the moment.
“I have never seen anyone as dedicated,” Redknapp said after Pompey’s FA Cup win. “He made three saves against Ipswich no-one else would have done. He has got everything. Their fans were singing ‘England’s number four’ – well I would like to see the other three.”
He may have a point. Tottenham’s Paul Robinson still appears to be struggling if Saturday’s glaring error is anything to go by, although West Ham’s Robert Green might also feel he’s done enough to be challenging for a place in the starting line-up against Switzerland. Will Capello go for experience or (relative) youth?
