So Chelsea have finally landed Nic Anelka after they increased their offer from their original £12m bid up to the £15m that was in line with Bolton’s valuation. And Bolton cannily played Chelsea’s bluff after the Londoners claimed that they would look elsewhere if the deal wasn’t accepted swiftly.
Although Megson will be gutted to lose Anelka – he now plans to bid for Toulouse’s Swedish striker Johan Elmander who is valued at £9m. And the Bolton manager also indicated that although Anelka has left, he can still be a big influence on Bolton’s Premier League status this season.
‘Nic came in this morning to say his goodbyes and we sat down and had 10 minutes.
‘I said: “I don’t want you to go, but what I would like you to do is to score against everybody who is in and around where we are in the table. Get a goal and make sure you beat them”. He said he’d do that.’
So could Anelka influence both who goes down and who wins the title?
