They said it all along and they are now saying it with a louder voice and more coherent rhythm. Newcastle United legend Alan Sharer to being hotly and popularly touted as the next manager of the Geordies and if Sky Sports is to be believed, then Shearer is all too eager to take charge of the club of which he has become an emblem.
Shearer has always been tipped as a successful manager and even when he was playing for the club, there were several football pundits who were convinced that with his technical knowledge of the English Premier League, popularity among the Geordies and love for Newcastle would make him a great manager of Newcastle in the future. It now appears that that time is drawing near.
Sam Allardyce left the club this week by “mutual agreeement” this week and he is yet to be replaced at St. James’ park. Among the experienced managers, Portsmouth’s Harry Redknapp is being tipped to take over soon. So much so that Sky Sports even reports that talks are under way between the two clubs for Newcastle to compensate Pompey for shoplifting their manager.
Yet for the Newcastle romantics, Shearer would be the most apt choice. Just as he had led the club to success in the early years of this century as a player, he would be expected to do the same in a new role as manager.
