After days of nervous twitching from the Toffee hordes, the Official Everton site has finally admitted that Manuel Fernandes has passed his medical (which at Everton is usually a double strength two day test featuring Rorshach tests and psych evaluations). The Portuguese wunderkind will play for the Goodison outfit fot the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move. The official site confirms:
“Everton have completed the loan signing of Manuel Fernandes from Spanish side Valencia. The Portuguese international passed a medical at Everton’s Finch Farm training complex on Friday and has completed the paperwork on his move to Goodison on loan until the end of the season.”
All the controversy of Fernandes’ last minute dumping of Everton and swanning off to Valencia has apparently been swept under the carpet – although to be fair, the murmurs around Merseyside suggest that the collapse of that deal was more to do with the obsecenely complicated Gordian knot that is third party ownership rather than the player himself being a sneaky, duplicitous git.
But Evertonians will try to forget this, and the unsavoury wierdness (accused of stealing someone’s watch in a Valencia nightclub) and instead focus on the time he twined the Arsenal midfield senseless and he supreme goal against Man Utd.
