Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes that his defence has been the main reason for his side’s mediocre performances so far and is ready to restore the problem in January. He Spaniard signed Zenith St Petersburg’s Slovakian stopper Martin Skrtel only this week and has set his eyes upon another defender.
Goal.com quotes Radio Marca in its reports stating that Rafa is looking towards Spain and Santander to import another defender. It reports that Rafa could land the Racing Sanatader centre back Ezequiel Garay as early as this week in order to bolster a somewhat fragile backline.
Garay is a 21-year old Argentine international whose versatility is a key part of his footballing traits. Garay is originally a central defender but the former Newell’s Old Boys player can also play at right back and is noted as a free kick specialist.
Rafa has been observed to look towards his native Spain for importing players and he appears to towing the same line in the case of Garay too. But will he be successful to steming the Liverpool defense? And more importantly, will Rafa’s new signings actually help Liverpool fight for the Premiership title that is drifting away from them all the time?
