The Independent today reports that after rebounding back from Harry Redknapp’s rejection of theiir offer, the Newcastle bigwigs will try and woo Mark Hughes. And in classic journo fashion, the Independent reckons that Mark Hughes’ declarations of happiness at Blackburn actually mask a burning desire to slip into the St James’ hotseat. Hughes said:
“It’s a hypothetical question and I don’t answer hypothetical questions. In football you never say never but I’m very happy to be Blackburn Rovers manager.
“I have got a good situation here, I’m comfortable and there’s continuity. You need time in football and I have been given it. There is speculation surrounding me but I am Blackburn manager. It’s got nothing to do with me. As a football manager speculation crops up.”
It’s the job which even the Lord of the Ferg says is the toughest in the Premiership, which psycho Souness is still reeling from, and if the recalcitrant players don’t get you, then the loopy owners will — would Hughes be mad to enter the St James asylum?
