Arsene Wenger is sure to have provoked an interesting debate on Merseyside, according to The Independent. The Arsenal manager has taken his team to Anfield and Goodison Park in the Premier League this season and claims that there was a far more intimidating atmosphere at the latter.
“Liverpool have the same kind of support, but Everton are a bit more aggressive because they are up at the moment,” Wenger said. “Over the last one or two years, it has been one of the noisiest grounds and has a great atmosphere. Liverpool is the same, but now a little bit more genteel.”
The Reds didn’t give their fans much to cheer about when the Gunners visited in October, being largely outplayed during their 1-1 draw. Has the atmosphere at Anfield changed for the worse and could ‘the genteel atmosphere’ be the reason why Liverpool have won only four out of ten matches at home in the league this season.
The prize for the best atmosphere on Merseyside goes to Everton!
