Non-League minnows Havant managed to beat league one high flyers Swansea 4-2 in FA Cup, and set up a glorious tie with Liverpool in the next round. Havant are a rag-tag bunch of part-timers, The Sun says that:
“A collection of bin men, plasterers and cab drivers produced one of the most thrilling third-round shocks.”
And everyone in the Havant side were understandably delirious with excitement, not only at beating Swansea 4-2 (and leading 3-0) which was a huge achievement in itself, but also at getting an away tie against Liverpool in the next round. Gaffer Shaun Gale giddily chirped:
“The cup run has been a fairytale.
“The lads were in tears in the dressing room afterwards because they know they are going to Anfield now.
“Those opportunities come once in a lifetime and you have to grab them. That’s what we did. The romance of the cup is well and truly alive.
“Swansea played their strongest side but they underestimated us.”
And the players were also joyous, when asked about playing Liverpool in the next round, skipper Jamie Collins said:
“It’s going to be unbelievable. The feeling will be priceless.
“If someone offered me a million pounds not to lead the side out, I would turn them down.
“To play against Steven Gerrard and lead your side out in front of the Kop — that’s something money can’t buy.
“We’ll make a lot of money out of the trip to Anfield but it’s not about that.
“It’s about putting this club on the map, which we’ve done.”
A truly unbelievable result which will set up an even more amazing encounter in the next round…
