Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has denied that he has spoken to Tottenham Hostspurs over Jermaine Defoe and brushes aside all newspaper claims suggesting that the England international striker was in Birmingham apparently to hold talks with the club.
Goal.com quotes Martin O’Neill telling Sky Sports that the two clubs have not been in touch over the Defoe transfer. He says:
It is simply untrue, absolutely and utterly untrue – it couldn’t be any fairer than that. I think that sort of statement, if you’re talking about a player at a football club – where the two haven’t talked to each other, is grossly unfair.
Indeed O’Neill has every reason in the world to hit at the scribes who are responsible for disseminating such preposterously false notions. But that Defoe is looking for a new club is as hard as concrete since Spurs manager Juande Ramos has told him that he is a liability rather than an asset at White Hart lane and that he would better discover another club should he want to play football regularly.
