Now this is really going over the top. Okay, Kevin Keegan has arrived at St. James’ Park and he is more certain than not to lift Newcastle United out of its current depression into some sort of buoyancy. Okay, Mike Ashley is ready to splash out money to make the squad stronger. But a bid for Michael Carrick? Come on, this is really stretching the leg a bit too far for the liking.
Goal.com quotes the Daily Star in its reports asserting that Newcastle are planning to launch a whooping £18 million bid for the Manchester United midfielder Carrick. This is as much ludicrous as well nigh impossible. Why should Carrick, firmly established in Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans both in the Premiership and in Europe, jump ship to Newcastle? Oh, he might be Tyneside native, but surely that alone wouldn’t be enough to seduce him from playing at St. James’ Park, would it?
It’s not sure how much truth there is in this Daily Star report but somehow the news makes for a good laugh.
