Goal.com reports that Shaun Wright-Philips is injured and is likely be out of footballing action for a few weeks at least. This comes as huge blow to the player, his club Chelsea and England coach Fabio Capello. Wright-Philips have been given his fair share of chances in the Chelsea first team and the player has responded positively so much so that he was already being tipped to start England’s friendly international Switzerland on February 6.
But the former Manchester City winger hurt his ankle badly during Saturday’s English Premier League match against Birmingham City at St. Andrews and a considerable amount of fear is that he would miss the England match.
Chelsea manager Avram Grant told the club’s website:
It is not looking good but we will have to wait and see. He was very good in the last week so even if we are used to losing all the players who are in good form, we want him back as soon as possible.
Hope Chelsea do have him back before soon. Otherwise there could well be a crisis in one of the largest squads in Europe.
