Manchester City might have lost some pace in the English Premier League of late but Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side is still more than capable of notching up a UEFA Cup spot for themselves. Although City are 7th in the league, the Swede believes that they can still qualify for Europe although Europe wouldn’t necessarily translate into the UEFA Champions League.
Sky Sports quotes the former England national coach as saying:
It would be wrong to say that fourth place is our target and everything else is bad. It can’t be like that because I think we’ve been doing very well so far. We should be very happy if we play in Europe next season. Of course we’re going to try and take the fourth place but if we don’t we shouldn’t be too depressed.
That’s typical Sven. Never raising the expectations too high and always digging a hole so that he can bury himself inside it at the end of the ruckus. But frankly, Man City will be more than just pleased to finish in a UEFA Cup spot this season. After all, they ended up in 14th spot last time around!
