Chelsea have lost out once again in their bid to woo another major international star to Stamford Bridge. Goal.com reports that that Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta has signed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2014.
At 23, Iniesta has already established himself as one of the key pieces in Frank Rijkaard’s jigsaw. He graduated from the Barcelona youth academy and made his debut for the senior side in 2002. For the past two seasons, Iniesta has been playing regularly and has developed tremendously. His ball-holding skills are the best in Spain and he is a regular in the Spanish national side.
Chelsea were supposedly contemplating a bid for the player in the summer. But now that Iniesta has committed himself to Barca, the west London club’s hopes of landing the Spaniard seem to have been extinguished.
