BBC Sport reports that Derby County have signed goalkeeper Roy Carroll from Rangers on loan until the end of the season. The former Manchester United custodian is Paul Jewell’s seventh signing – the question is whether it will be a lucky one?
Manager Jewell seems to believe so, saying:
”It’s taken longer than I’d have liked but I’m sure he will be worth waiting for. Roy is a terrific keeper – he’s played at the very highest level and I’ve worked with him briefly before so I know what he’s all about.”
Derby are more or less certain to be relegated from the Premier League but maybe Jewell believes Carroll can stave off the rot. Don’t expect much of him, though; he has played just one match for Rangers all season and needs to show that he is still capable of performing in top-flight English football.
