Kevin Keegan is now after Jonathan Woodgate. That according to Shields Gazette that affirms that the newly appointed Newcastle United manager is keen on signing the former Newcastle United defender.
Woodgate was once thought to be one of the best central defenders in England and one of the very few complete defenders in Europe. But a string of injuries in the latter part of his Newcastle career and in his two years at Real Madrid dipped his form and reputation. Although the 28-year old England international is doing well at Middlesbrough, any club that signs him will be taking a gamble.
Yet Keegan knows the class and quality of Woodgate. And that is why he is reported to be ready to take the gamble on the injury-prone player. Woodgate would certainly be a great addition to the Newcastle squad but Boro wouldn’t let him go without a fight.
