Breaking news: Javier Mascherano is set to leave Anfield!
The Daily Mail reports that the Argentine international midfielder is one foot out of the exit door at Liverpool. Mascherano’s loan period at Anfield gets over at the end of the summer and for Liverpool to sign him permanently, they need to muster up £17 million which the Liverpool’s American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks are unable to procure.
Mascherano himself says that he is eager to stay at Anfield but alo warns that he might have to leave. He told an Argentine radio:
I would love to stay here (in Liverpool). I have tried and I’ve adapted to the city very well. But the clubs that are talking are also important and I would like to go,” the 23-year-old told an Argentinian radio station.
Now it would be an utter shame should Liverpool not come up with the money and keep the best anchoring midfielder in the world in their folds. Manager Rafael Benitez though wants the 23-year old to say at Anfield. Juventus and AC Milan both are interested in signing the player in the summer.
