Now Paul Robinson might not be a world class goalkeeper but he is certainly a very much practical man. The Tottnham Hotspur is out of favour of Spurs manager Jaunde Ramos and has been told to find another club since he is a surplus to the North London. Although Robinson has not yet send in a transfer request, he knows that winning back his place in the Spurs starting line-up would be massively difficult.
Robinson also knows that he wouldn’t be able to guarantee selection to the England national squad under Fabio Capello. England play Switzerland on February 6 in an international friendly and The Mirror quotes him as saying:
I am not playing football and if that’s the case I can’t expect to be selected. I will be surprised if I am. If I am considered, fantastic. But I don’t think that will be the case and I am ready for that. I am not arrogant enough to say I should be picked based on what I have done before. It’s a new manager that has come in, he will have his own opinions and we will have to wait and see. But this whole situation is an incentive for me to get my head down at Tottenham and concentrate on getting my place back.
Given Capello’s hardline approach, Robinson could well be axed. Not that many England supporters would mind it. But with whom would Capello go against the Swiss?
