Gillingham might be playing in the obscurity of League One but in Luke Freeman they have unearthed a gem. Not that they can hold onto him any longer but at least they would be able to mint decent money out of the 15-year old.
The Daily Mail reports that Freeman is on his way to Premiership giants Arsenal for £200,000. Gillingham have admitted that talks between the two clubs have been held and that in the coming days, the deal would be finalized.
Gillingham’s chairman Paul Scally says:
We have agreed in principal a deal for Luke to go to Arsenal. We are still waiting on some of the finer details to be concluded but we are confident that it will happen very soon. It is a shame for Gillingham to lose a special talent such as Luke but we cannot stand in the way of such a fantastic opportunity.
Freeman is yet another young striker to be snapped by Arsenal. The Gunner had already bagged Theo Walcott from Southampton last season and this time they have embraced Freeman, Freeman is said to be talented striker who became the youngest player to feature in the FA Cup when he played as substitute for Gillingham against Barnet in the first round way back in November.
