A number of players have been linked with a move away from Middlesbrough during the January transfer window, but this bit of news is about the influx of new faces to the Riverside.
Sky Sports reports that manager Gareth Southgate has expressed a keen desire to sign Motherwell forward Ross McCormack in the remaining hours of the window. Southgate has admitted that Boro have been involved in talks with the Scottish club over a possible signing but says things are still hanging in the balance. Southgate says:
”McCormack is a player we have been watching. We’ve been in contact with Motherwell to let them know we have an interest. We have had preliminary discussions with the player’s representatives but at the moment there is nothing concrete.”
It is unlikely that Motherwell will sell the player now. That said, they would have to let the player go on a Bosman free in the summer when his contract with the Fir Park club runs out. And that wouldn’t bring Motherwell any money.
