…Well by the sound of it that’s what Rangers manager Walter Smith thinks, telling the Daily Mail that Spurs latest acquisition, 23-year-old international defender Alan Hutton is an absolute cracker of a player. Smith said:
“I am extremely confident Alan will do well at Tottenham. He has shown with his performances for Rangers and Scotland how well he can play. It’s a terrific buy for Tottenham.
“His level of performance has been excellent and he now has the confidence to go along with that.
“Everybody at the club, from the chairman down, is disappointed from a football perspective that he is leaving. But we all know the reality of the situation is that it’s an offer we couldn’t turn down.
“Alan seemed to agonise over the move but that’s something you would need to ask Alan about. He was happy to stay at Rangers as he was enjoying his football.
“But he appreciates the financial aspect meant it was something he had to consider seriously. That is why it has taken him so long to make up his mind. He wanted to make sure it was the right move at the right time for him.”
So Spurs now approach the business end of the season with a new look defence – having signed Jonathan Woodgate as well as Hutton – surely they will now rise up the league and start threatening in the top half?
