Poor Manchester City and Benjani! The Portsmouth striker could have by now become a Man City striker had he been wary of time; instead he has to remain at Fratton Park until the end of the season at least.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Man City were on the verge of signing the Zimbabwean international striker from Pompey but the player failed to arrive in Manchester before the Thursday midnight deadline. This now implies that Benjani stays with Portsmouth.
Not that Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp would complain too much. After all, he braced himself for the departure of his striker with a last gasp signing of Jermaine Defoe from Tottenham Hotspur. Redknapp will be smiling quietly to himself since he now has an extra striker in Benjani. As they say in football, one man’s loss is another man’s gain.
