Gareth Bale is reportedly set to miss the rest of Tottenham’s season due to a persistent foot injury. The 18-year-old Welshman hasn’t played for Spurs since the beginning of December and will be especially disappointed to be missing out on the Carling Cup final later this month. The Times reports Damien Comolli, the Tottenham sporting director, as saying:
“Although the surgeon was happy with the results of the X-rays, he does not anticipate Gareth being able to play any further part in this season. We are all disappointed for Gareth, but his long-term fitness is our priority.”
Of course, Bale isn’t the only injury-prone defender in the Spurs squad. Ledley King gives Darren Anderton a run for his money with time spent on the sidelines, while new signing Jonathan Woodgate has rarely completed a full season of football during his career without feeling a twinge. At least Pascal Chimbonda will be guaranteed first-team football for the rest of the season.
