23-year old right side midfielder David Bentley is a hot property these days. He has fitted almost seamlessly into the England set-up for the first match at least under Don Fabio Capello and has been playing superbly for Blackburn Rovers so far this season in the English Premier League. No wonder than Blackburn boss Mark Hughes is eager to draw the player into transfer negotiations.
Bentley is tied to the club until 2011 but Hughes, who is optimistic about playing in Europe next season, wants a contract renewal. He says:
We are still talking to David and his people. I don’t think anything has moved forward this week because he’s been away on international duty, but I think both parties are talking. We try to be fair to players who have been a big part of what we are trying to do, and we try to reflect that with contract offers – we’ve always done that.
Bentley must surely know that he is getting noticed and it could be difficult for modest Blackburn to tie the England international for too long.
