Micah Richards signs new contract with Man City

Manchester City fans can heave a sigh of relief at long last. Prized asset Micah Richards has eventually penned down a long term contract at the City of Manchester Stadium. The player’s contract with the club was due to end in 2010 and there was much speculation that the 19 year old England international defender could leave Man City before long.

But now Richards’ contract with City will keep him in the blue half of Manchester until 2013. The player himself is buoyed that a contract agreement has ultimately been reached and says:

I’ve always wanted to be at this club and signing this five-and-a-half-year contract shows that. It puts all the speculation to bed. I can concentrate on the rest of the season now. The manager has been great. We’re going to fight for Europe, which is a massive achievement. I try to put in 100% every match and hopefully I can keep playing that way and playing for my country as well.

Man City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson too is delighted at the news:

This is fantastic news. It shows we are building for the future by securing one of our most talented players on a longest-term contract.

And I guess the Man City fans too will be over the moon with this news.
